Dear Representative Liston,

It has been brought to Americans for Tax Reform's attention that you are being accused of voting in favor of referring Referendum C to the ballot. Ref. C, the 2005 measure that is notorious among conservatives for suspending Taxpayer Bill of Rights-mandated refunds for five years, allowed state government to grow in excess of what would have been allowed under TABOR. ATR has looked into the allegations and found claims that you voted for Ref. C to be patently false.

The House Journal for 3/10/05 clearly shows that you voted "No" on House Bill 1194, the bill that placed Ref. C on the ballot. I applaud your principled stand in opposition to Ref. C, a measure that ultimately cost Colorado taxpayers billions of dollars.

Furthermore, as the only Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer in the race to represent Senate District 10, you are currently the only candidate in the race who has committed to opposing any and all efforts to raise taxes. This commitment is all the more important in light of the fact that the largest federal tax increase in U.S. history will hit individuals, families, and employers across Colorado in less than eight short months. These tax increases include: higher income tax rates, higher taxes on marriage and family, a middle class death tax, higher tax rates on savers and investors, employer tax hikes, and twenty new or higher taxes in ObamaCare. In light of this, it is imperative that taxpayers have representatives at the state capital who will commit, as you have, to stop attempts to pile on with even more job-killing tax increases at the state level.

Thanks again for your commitment to hardworking taxpayers. Don't hesitate to contact me or ATR's Director of State Affairs, Patrick Gleason, at (202) 785-0266 with any questions.

Onward,

Grover G. Norquist

President, Americans for Tax Reform
